In an effort to increase usage of their on-line banking web-site,
PNC bank and HCCSU developed a promotion where customers who did
their
banking on-line at the PNC site got the chance to guess the amount
of a mystery check. Each week for 13 consecutive weeks, a new blank
check would be placed on the site and customers would be able to
take a guess at the amount. Any customer that guessed the amount
would get to keep the check, which always had a value of over $1,000,000
and was insured with HCC Specialty Underwriters' Prize Indemnity
Insurance.
During the NCAA Men's College Basketball Tournament and the MLB
World Series, a lucky consumer gets to attempt a 3-Point shot and
a baseball strike for a $1,000,000 prize.
Consumers at KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell received Star Wars game
pieces. Any consumer that collected the correct combination of game
pieces could claim one of three (3) $1,000,000 prizes, along with
various other prizes.
Everyday during the months of November and December, 1999, one second
was randomly selected, and anyone that made a Visa Transaction during
one of those seconds would get 100% of their money back.
